Design Brief

This is my Design-Brief for my company ' Kurto Designs ' this would be ideal for my company as it is a sign making company, and all the information i need is on the design brief. I have made the design a three page spread back to front, so all of the required fields can be fit onto the design brief without being squashed.

The purpose of a Design Brief: A design brief is a critical part of the design process, it helps develop a understanding between the customer and the designer, it is also a essential reference for both customer and the designer. The design brief is something the designer can refer back to, regarding what the customer wants such as text, text colour, size of the thing they want designing, any specific requirements or even if they have any money constraints.

Why a Design Brief is critical: A Design Brief is critical because it gives the designer something to look back on for reference towards the design. Also the more information you have on the Design Brief the more likely you are to fulfill the clients requirements. A design brief is a constant thing for example it is there in case the person who has received it becomes ill, so it can then be passed on to someone else. Or if the design brief needs to be sent to another company to fulfill the requirements, if it is filled in correctly the next person who receives it should have no problem with designing the product that is needed.

Different ways of recieving a Design Brief: A Design Brief can be recieved a couple of different ways, for example you can recieve it as a email which is quite helpful because you then you always have the Design Brief sent and that you have spoken to the customer.  You can also get a Design Brief of a client by having a one to one chat with them over the design, which can be helpful to give you a more definate idea of what the client wants designing, and how he or she wants it to look, this one to one chat could be over the phone or actually in person. Another way the Design Brief can be recieved is if the Brief would to be filled in and then sent back to the company for the designer to look over and use the relivent information on the Brief to design.

How different companies contexts impact design process: Depending on what the company does will influence the design, for example if a beauty salon or anything to do with beauty came to a designer, the basic colours would be vibrant colours such as pink and purple. Or if a Plumber or a Electrician company or person came to the designer the basic colours would be earth colours such as brown.
For the font the designer would use thin, curvy writing for a beauty salon or even just something 'girly' where as for the plumber or just something more manly they would use bold thick writing.

For the images for the design the designer would use suitable images, or images the client has asked for. Suitable images for a beauty salon would be treatments such as pedicure or facials, just something that applies to the job. For the plumber the images could be tools, boilers or even piping.

The design process relates to different buisness needs because if the company is only a small company which is only just starting it may need all of the apects designing such as logo's, letter heading, buisness cards and website. But if the company is already a big company they might already have there logo's and other things designed, so it would just be a case of putting there logo and things together. But for the smaller company it would be a case of designing the whole piece of work which would take a lot more time and cost more money.
