Kid Acne
Kid Acne started painting graffiti from the age of twelve; nowadays you can see his work from all over the globe. His signature style of graffiti has furnished products for world leading brands such as Prada, Volkswagen and Levis.
Going into a city art gallery like the one we went to in Sheffield, I’d expect to see the exhibition to be put together by the artist, or at least the artist to have some influence on the room or where the art work was going. Kid Acne had a big influence on the exhibition in Sheffield, he was the one who put the art work together and he gratified the walls with some of his well-known graffiti. The room was set out so his work he first developed and his sketchbooks were first, and then the further you got into the exhibition the more recent his work got, where he took his graffiti from the streets and developed it into the art world and even produced a short film.
At first I didn’t the quality of Kid Acne's work would have been displayed in an art exhibition, because he is a graffiti artist and all of his works were sketches from when he was young. But the further I got into the exhibition you could see where he'd developed his graffiti of the streets to a work of art, and he'd even made a short film which your average graffiti artist wouldn’t do.
I really liked the fact the artist was a graffiti artist, because I really enjoy the art of graffiti, and for someone to become a well-known artist through graffiti on the street must mean his work was eye catching and have something special about it. I liked how he had a big impact on the exhibition such as his graffiti on the walls and some of his artwork he painted onto the walls, I also liked how the room was set out quite simple there wasn't too much to take it at one time and there was even some photos of his graffiti he had done from around Sheffield. You can also tell from his work that he hasn’t thought too much about what he is drawing or sketching, it’s very simple but effective.
I didn’t really like the back of the exhibition featuring 'Stabby Women' I didn't really understand his whole idea of another world of beliefs and how these 'Stabby Women' would exist in the world. I thought as a artist he should have stuck to creating his work as he did before in a sketchbook or a wall or even the skateboards and Vinyl’s he was creating.
For my design work regarding the future I could see Kid Acne's graffiti work having some influence on my work because it’s simple but so effective. I would examine his graffiti work from the streets and his sketchbooks then I would try and use his work methods to help me with my design to give the same simple effective work that Kid Acne gives out.
